Larry Smothers was born in Louisville, KY. During his 11 years serving in the military, Larry began to use drugs and drink heavily. After his honorable discharge, Larry began to travel the US with a backpack, looking for both adventure and the next high. Larry would spend the next 25 years going back and forth between homelessness and small dive apartments. Despite the efforts of good friends and family, Larry continued to use drugs and alcohol and became sicker. Larry awoke with a desire for new life. In 2007, with the help of God working through Jefferson Street Baptist Center, Larry became clean and began to have a vision for the life God wanted him to have. Larry desires to use his art to encourage others and be a blessing to the world around him. Larry’s paintings seek to capture everyday objects and events seen through a-typical perspectives in order to discover a more full understanding of the subject matter.
